This is the ATHLETE REGISTRATION FOR VALOR GAMES SOUTHEAST 2022:

3x3 Wheelchair Basketball Tournament

Valor Games Southeast (VGSE) features 10 adaptive sports ranging from introductory to advanced competition in some sports. Due to the continuing effects of COVID-19, Bridge II Sports will follow a format similar to 2021 hosting 1 two-day event and 2 one-day events. These events will still honor the spirit, tradition, and camaraderie that are the hallmarks of Valor Games Southeast. The Rocky Mount Event Center will host the 3x3 Wheelchair Basketball Tournament to be played on August 6.

***Non-Veteran/service member athletes with physical disabilites are welcome to attend however, there will be a fee of $100.00 and you are responsible for paying for your own hotel unless you room with a Veteran***

Tournament Information

Disability/Classification Groups: For purposes of Valor Games Southeast 2022, there are no field classifications based on disability or gender. All participants will play from a sports chair. Participants will compete on a team, developed by BIIS staff using the following criteria:

  • Athletes will register as individuals.
  • Teams will be selected by height, class, and ability.
  • The best players are drawn to individual teams and remaining players are drawn to one of those teams as evenly as possible.

Tournament Format: Games will start in a Round Robin format, then move on to an elimination round. The elimination round is followed by the semi-finals, then to the bronze and gold medal games. Games would be played on eight half courts (equals four full courts).

Rules:

  • No double dribble. Can pass to yourself.
  • Traveling is called if a player pushes more than two times without dribbling.
  • Players cannot come out of their seats.
  • Player or any part of wheelchair besides the wheels cannot encounter the floor while the player has possession of the ball.
  • If a player falls out of the wheelchair, play continues unless the fall endangers the fallen player or other players. If the player with the ball comes close to the fallen player, play stops until the player can right him/herself.
  • Teams agree on shooter for outs to begin play and shoot from agreed spot.
  • Round robin and elimination round games are played to 15 by ones and teams must win by two or to 20 minutes, whichever comes first. If 20 minutes expires, it goes to sudden death win by one.
  • Semi-finals and Finals (bronze- & gold-medal games) will be played to 21 points, and teams must win by two.
  • All baskets count as one (1) point and 3-pointers are worth two (2) points.
  • Alternating possession after a made basket.
  • ALL players must clear ball to 3-point line after each possession, i.e. made basket, dead ball, or after a foul.
  • You do not have to clear ball on an air ball or a steal.
  • You must clear the paint after each possession.
  • Players will call their own fouls. After foul call is made, the possession continues after the ball is cleared to the 3-point line. Minor or little incidental calls should not be called and play should continue. In the semi-finals and finals after five (5) fouls the opposing team player who was fouled will shoot a free throw and it will count as one (1) point.
  • Any dispute that cannot be resolved, both teams will agree on a single shooter from free throw to determine the dispute result. A “make” wins the dispute, a miss loses the dispute.
  • Should a team have a sub (rare) that team must work out a pattern that allows the sub in the game.
  • In event of injury and a player cannot continue the tournament director will work to replace with the extra sub if there is one. Or game by game find comparable player who agrees to play as schedule allows.
  • Winning team must report scores immediately to scorer’s table.
  • RULES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE. Athletes will be notified of any rule changes.

Medals: Medals will be awarded to the members of the top three finishing teams.
